"What does CL mean to you?"
CL has had a profound impact on my life. I first discovered Changing Lanes when I was dating my wife. Around six months into our relationship, I mustered up the courage to open up about my struggle with pornography. It was important for me to be transparent with her as we contemplated marriage. She expressed her conditions, one of which was seeking advice from my future father-in-law. Initially reluctant, I met with him and shared my situation, expressing my desire to overcome this challenge.
He prayed for me, provided invaluable advice based on his own experience, and introduced me to Brett, whom he had encountered at one of his conferences in Seattle a few years prior. The very next day, I nervously but hopefully called Brett, and to my relief, he warmly welcomed me and offered his assistance. Since the next group wouldn't start for a few months, he arranged a session through CL ONE for me to begin the journey. The timing worked out perfectly, as I was able to join the group shortly after getting married.
Changing Lanes groups are exceptional and meticulously organized, featuring a wealth of valuable materials for learning and growth. Despite the distance, with me being in Seattle and the group in Tulsa, the hybrid format worked seamlessly for me. Through this program, I learned a great deal about my identity in Christ, addressed father wounds, and fostered meaningful connections with remarkable men who provided support, accountability, and encouragement.
We walked together, side by side, on this journey of healing.
During the course of the group, I flew down to Tulsa three times to meet everyone in person and attended the graduation ceremony at the end of the 18-month program. It was an unforgettable experience.
"What advice do you have for future men walking into CL?"
My advice for men embarking on their Changing Lanes journey is to fearlessly share their hearts and struggles with others. The devil will tempt you to remain silent and convince you that you are alone in your seemingly unfixable addiction. He will try to isolate you and hinder you from fulfilling your purpose. However, the truth is that sharing my story with the men in my life has brought tremendous growth, both for myself and the individuals I confide in.
You don't have to continue struggling in isolation. This group will equip you with the right mindset and tools to fight your addiction, but it all begins with your willingness and commitment. If you don't actively work at it, you won't experience true progress. It's not about modifying your behavior; it's about transforming your heart.
Believe in yourself, have faith in the process, and remember that you are capable of overcoming this challenge with God and hard work. You've got this!
